Mediatek is the famous chinese smartphone chipsets manufacturer and has been a tremendous impact in android community as their chipsets are well featured and less priced. Mediatek has been a great competitor in the market and have announced very powerful chips in past year. As the use of android wearables is increasing and many companies are now introducing their wearables so mediatek have now sighted this and just introduced their new soc Mediatek MT2601 which is specially designed for android wearables.
In the ongoing CES 2015 conference, Mediatek has announced their all new soc MT2601 which is a soc based on the Google Android Wear platform.
The MT2601 soc powered a 1.2Ghz dual core Arm Cortex A7 cpu which is coupled by a Mali-400 MP gpu. The new soc can support a qHD display and can be connected to external sensors and wireless modems.
This chip is not so competitive and powerful than snapdragon 400 Quadcore chip which is featured in different wearables from different companies like Samsung gear live, Asus Zenwatch smartwatches and LG G Watch R. But still it is preferable for location and fitness oriented devices.
The soc’s low powered processor, small size and limited feature is best suited for low priced android wearables whereas it has a quite long battery life. Mediatek in their press release stated that they will extend this MT2601 soc and will introduced more socs for wearables so in coming days we can see a lineup of mediatek powered android wearables.
The MT2601 is already in production and ready to deploy in android wearable devices. We are excited to see mediatek android wear products, are you excited to experience the low cost wearables? Do share your views in below comments.
